DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke All-America women's golfer Jenny Chuasiriporn has been named assistant men's golf coach at the University of Virginia.
Chuasiriporn, a four-time All-America selection at Duke from 1995-99, helped guide the Blue Devils to a national championship in 1999 and is best known for her second place finish at the 1998 U.S. Open. A then rising senior drained a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th green, the 72nd hole of the tournament, to force a dramatic 18-hole playoff for the title with Se Ri Pak.
The native of Timonium, Md., owns Duke's career record for top-10 finishes (27) and her 65 in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Championship equals the best round of golf under head coach Dan Brooks. Her stroke average of 72.94 in 1997-98 ranks second on Duke's all-time list.
Chuasiriporn will assist head coach Mike Moraghan at Virginia, who is entering his 12th season. The Cavaliers finished fourth in the ACC Championships last season.
