DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 30) - Duke University freshman goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) has received yet another honor, as she was named to the Soccer America All-Freshman team as announced on Jan. 30.
Helgadottir, one of the top goalkeepers in the country, had an outstanding first year as helped the 17th-ranked Blue Devils reach the ACC Tournament Championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She appeared in 18 games for the Blue Devils while accumulating a 1.26 goals against average and an 8-5-1 won/loss record. Helgadottir racked up many honors in 2000 including:
Helgadottir was one of four ACC players to be named to the 11-person team, which included national freshman of the year Lindsay Browne of Clemson. North Carolina's Alyssa Ramsey and Florida State's Emma Breland round out the ACC contingent.
The Duke University women's soccer team finished the season with a 14-8-1 overall record and lost to Clemson University 2-1 in overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
