DURHAM, N.C. (June 1) -- Women's lacrosse sophomore Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.) has been named both First Team IWLCA and USLacrosse All-America, after leading Duke with 41 goals and 46 points. Other players selected All-America were senior Tricia Martin (Second Team IWLCA and Honorable Mention USLacrosse) and Meghan Walters (Third Team IWLCA).
In just two seasons at Duke, Kaiser has made her mark as one of the most prolific scorers to play for the Blue Devils. She has totaled 66 goals in 35 matches and currently has scored a goal in 24 straight matches. The All-America honor for Kaiser is the second (she was named Second Team IWLCA as a freshman).
Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) was named All-America for the third straight year and concluded her stellar career at Duke with 161 goals, 75 assists, and 236 points, which are all Duke records. She was a First Team All-America selection in 1998 and 1999 for USLacrosse and was named First Team IWLCA in 1999.
Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa.) came in her first year at Duke and started 12 of her 17 matches played. She quickly became the defensive stopper for the Blue Devils as she was teamed up against the opponent's top scorer during matches. She held Jen Adams of Maryland to three goals and two assists, held North Carolina's Kellie Thompson to no goals and no assists, held Virginia's Jamie Haas to no goals and no assists, and held the nations leading scorer, Jamie Weitzel of Dartmouth, to three goals in two matches.
The Duke Blue Devils will have three players who will be trying out for the U.S. Developmental team this weekend. Walters, senior Shannon Chaney, and freshman Lauren Gallagher all will travel to Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. on Saturday and Sunday. Last summer Kaiser, Martin, and Meghan McLaughlin played for the U.S. Developmental team. Gallagher played on the Under-19 World Cup U.S. team, while Walters was an alternate on the team.
