Blue Devils will host Dartmouth on Thursday in the first round
DURHAM, N.C. (May 7) -- The No. 7 ranked Duke women's lacrosse team received its third-consecutive selection to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday as the Blue Devils were one of 12 teams chosen to compete for the 2000 national championship. Duke will host No. 9 Dartmouth (11-4) on Thursday in Durham, N.C.
A time will be set on Monday and the match will be played at Koskinen Stadium. Duke is the No. 7 seed, while Dartmouth is seeded 10th. The winner of the Duke/Dartmouth match will move on to face No. 2 seed Princeton University. The match will take place on May 14 at Princeton.
It was just nine days ago, when Duke traveled to No. 2 Dartmouth and won 11-8 to end the regular season. In the match, Duke held Jacque Weitzel, the leading goal scorer in the nation, to only one goal. She averages 4.29 a match. The Blue Devils own a 2-3 record against Dartmouth and have won the past two meetings in a row.
Duke has turned in a 10-5 record this season, under the direction of fifth year head coach Kerstin Kimel. Last year the Blue Devils advanced to its first ever NCAA Final Four and lost to Virginia 9-8 in the semifinals.
This marks the second year in a row the Blue Devils have hosted a NCAA Tournament match. In 1999, Duke defeated James Madison 11-10 to advance to the Final Four.
