ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS
The Duke women's lacrosse team is once again having an excellent season and enters the 2000 NCAA
Tournament with a 10-5 mark.
Last season was a breakout year for the Blue Devils as they advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history and set a school record with 13 victories. In 2000 the Blue Devils have not let down winning 10 matches and knocking off seven ranked opponents (No. 23 Virginia Tech, No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Georgetown, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 20 William & Mary, No. 14 Yale, and No. 2 Dartmouth).
Duke began the season winning seven of its first nine matches and were ranked #3 in the nation, but then lost to #8 Virginia (10-8), #6 North Carolina (7-6), and #7 James Madison (16-14) down the stretch. The Blue Devils rebounded to defeat #2 Dartmouth 11-8 to conclude the regular season.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
Dartmouth enters NCAA play with a three-match losing streak to Duke (8-11), North Carolina (12-11 in OT),
and Syracuse (9-18). The Big Green is led by senior Jacque Weitzel, who currently leads the nation with a 4.33
goals per match average. She has scored 65 goals in 15 matches. Weitzel also ranks third in the nation with 5.13
points per match.
In the Duke/Dartmouth match on April 18, Blue Devil freshman defender Megan Walters held Weitzel to only one goal. The rematch should be equally good to watch. Along with Weitzel, The Big Green has a scoring threat in Kate Graw. Graw ranks 15th in the nation with 4.29 points per match and is tied for 15th with 1.64 assists per match. She has scored 37 goals and assisted on 23. Dartmouth is led in goal by sophomore Sarah Hughes with 154 saves and a .616 save percentage.
Dartmouth ranks ninth in the nation in scoring offense (13.07) and 20th in scoring defense (8.47).
NOTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Depending on how far the Blue Devils advance in the NCAA Tournament, Duke could break the school record
for most goals scored in a season (210). The Blue Devils have scored 189 goals in 15 matches and if Duke
continues its 12.6 goals per game it could break the record in the second round of the NCAAs. Duke's 12.6
goals per game ranks second in the ACC.
Duke's Kate Kaiser ranks third (2.53) in the ACC in goals per game and Tricia Martin ranks fourth (2.20). Kate Soulier ranks fifth in the ACC in assists per game (1.27). Claire Sullivan ranks fourth in ground balls (3.07). Senior goalkeeper Shannon Chaney ranks third in save percentage (.526) and third in goals against average (8.59).
Junior Kate Soulier (Chadds Ford, Pa.) has been on a roll the past two matches scoring five goals and assisting on four others. For the season she has notched 20 goals and leads the Blue Devils with 19 assists. She ranks third on the squad with 39 points.

Chaney followed up the UNC win with another solid 30 minutes in net against 20th-ranked William & Mary on April 1 as she posted seven saves, allowed four goals, and recorded one forced turnover in the contest. Duke ended the match with an 18-9 victory over the Tribe. For the week Chaney recorded 19 saves and allowed only 11 goals for an impressive .633 save percentage and a 7.33 goals against average.
