The #3 ranked Duke women's lacrosse team will host #8 Virginia on Saturday, April 8 at Koskinen Stadium in a key ACC matchup. Match time is set for 2:00 P.M. The match is huge for Duke as they are looking for their second ACC win of the season, which would be a school record.
The ACC is made up of UNC (2-1), Maryland (2-1), Virginia, and Duke and with a win Duke would be 2-1 in the ACC for the first time ever. It would also create a three-way tie in the ACC standings with UNC and Maryland. The Blue Devils are 0-7 all-time against Virginia and three of their five losses last season were to Virginia.
THE HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
So far this season Duke has totaled a 3-1 record at home and in the past two years the Blue Devils had recorded a 10-1 record in
matches played at Koskinen Stadium.
DUKE VS. VIRGINIA
Virginia has dominated the overall series with Duke as they lead it 7-0 and have outscored the Blue Devils 84-55 in the seven
meetings. Last season Virginia won 15-9 at Virginia in the regular season, 10-9 in the ACC Tournament, and 9-8 in the NCAA
Final Four. Duke is 0-2 vs. Virginia in Durham.
When the two teams meet on Saturday it will matchup the top two scoring defenses in the ACC. Virginia leads the league with 7.20
goals allowed, while Duke is second at 7.89.
NOTING THE BLUE DEVILS
The Blue Devils are currently on a four-match win streak, which includes victories over #5 North Carolina and #6 Georgetown.
Duke is currently on their way to shatter the most goals in a season record by a Blue Devil team (210). The Blue Devils have scored
118 goals in nine matches and is they keep their 13.1 goals per game for the rest of the season Duke would score 236. Duke's 13.1
goals per game ranks second in the ACC.
Junior Kate Soulier leads the team and ranks third in the ACC in assists per game (1.56). Senior Tricia Martin ranks fifth in the ACC in scoring (3.44) and third in the ACC in goals (2.78). Senior goalkeeper Shannon Chaney ranks third in the ACC in save percentage (.551) and fourth in goals against average (8.00).
CHANEY NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Duke women's lacrosse goalie Shannon Chaney has been named ACC Player of the Week on Monday, after leading Duke to two
road victories on the week.
The senior native of Oklahoma City, Okla. came up huge on Wednesday as #3 Duke knocked off #5 North Carolina in Chapel Hill for the first time ever. In the match she recorded 12 saves and allowed only seven goals in 60 minutes, for a .632 save percentage, as she held North Carolina to three-fewer goals than its season average in the 8-7 win. Chaney followed up the UNC win with another solid 30 minutes in net against 20th-ranked William & Mary on Saturday as she posted seven saves, allowed four goals, and recorded one forced turnover in the contest. Duke ended the match with an 18-9 victory over the Tribe.
For the week Chaney recorded 19 saves and allowed only 11 goals for an impressive .633 save percentage and a 7.33 goals against average.
HIGH SCORING DEVILS
After nine matches, the Blue Devils have five players who have scored 13 or more goals. Tricia Martin leads the team with 25, Kate
Kaiser is second with 20, Kelly Dirks third with 19, Lauren Gallagher (14), and Kate Soulier (13) round out the five.
Gallagher, a freshman native of West Chester, Pa., has made a huge impact for Duke so far starting all nine matches. She is fourth on
the team in goals scored (14) and second in assists (7).
As a team Duke has outscored opponents 118-71 and is averaging 13.1 goals per match this season. Duke has scored 63 goals in the first half and 55 goals in the second half.

MARTIN NAMED DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Duke women's lacrosse senior forward Tricia Martin was named Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Women's Division I Player of the Week
on March 27.
Martin, a native of Huntington, N.Y., tallied seven goals and two assists in leading Duke to a pair of victories over nationally ranked opponents. On Wednesday she scored two goals and assisted on two as Duke defeated #18 Vanderbilt (13-7). Then, on Saturday she scored five goals against #6 Georgetown as Duke came away with a 13-9 victory. Two of the goals against Georgetown came in the final three minutes of the first half, which gave Duke a 6-4 halftime lead.
