Marjorie Simons asks Tricia, how does it feel playing at a lacrosse school? The program has done so well. You must be very proud of your contribution.
---
I'm very proud of our team and what we've accomplished. We've also got a lot of support from the community, from the school and our parents. I'm very proud to be playing at Duke. Playing lacrosse at Duke has been one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.
Dan Martin asks Who is better, you or your brother?
One on one, he could kick my butt, but I got him in stats.
Darby Maxwell asks Tricia, I read that you are from Huntington. How do you think women's lacrosse in that part of NY stacks up with other areas that produce laxers?
I think Long Island holds its own in terms of competing with Baltimore, Virginia and other parts of the country. It's funny cause you can tell where people are from by how they play. Baltimore produces some of the best lacrosse players, but I think Long Island holds its own.
Sally Jacobsen asks Hi Tricia, what skils should young players work on so that they can become as good as you?
The biggest thing would be the basics - throwing, catching and cradling. When I worked with my brother and father, we just worked on throwing and catching. As you get older, if you have the basics down, all the other aspects of your game will develop through playing.
Myron Kandela asks Hi Tricia, what would you like to do once you graduate from Duke University. Will you coach?
I got certified in elementary education, so I would like to teach and I would like to coach starting off with the junior high and high school level, and if I enjoyed that, I might move on to the college level. Either way, I'd like to stay involved with the sport through coaching.
Georgia Frontieri asks What is the best thing about attending Duke University?
Our team is very close in terms of friendship and I think that's the greatest thing so far. I've met some great people and have made friends that I feel very close with. I live with like 8 or 9 teammates and it's nice that those friendships will last.
Billy Sample asks When did you begin playing and who was your biggest influence in the game?
I began playing in 7th grade for my junior high school team. My biggest influence in terms of helping me play and develop would be my father and brother. I worked with them a lot. They really made me the player I am.
Andrew Colton asks How'd you pick Duke and do you see women's lacrosse becoming more popular in the future?
I picked Duke because it's a great balance of academics and athletics. Duke is a great place to play sports. I had a lot of confidence in Kerstin. She told me the team would go far and she was correct. I came down on my visit and loved it. Q2- I think it will become more popular because it's spreading all over the country now - the west and midwest. Those involved in lacrosse are trying to spread it, and also colleges and high schools are picking up lacrosse programs to offer opportunities for girls who want to play. I think it has a good chance of going far.
Rob Peterson asks Does your team get a lot of respect in the Duke community?
Yes, I think students respect the athletes and what we do, and the other student-athletes respect each other because they know the time and effort that goes into the season. Just because we're not the number one sport here, doesn't mean that we don't get respect. We get a lot of support here.
John Jones asks Do you think you can make it to the Final Four again this year?
I think we have a very good chance of doing so. Our team has been doing a very good job lately. Of not only winning, but playing to win. It's a goal of the team, so I think everyone is going to work very hard to try and achieve that goal.
Garek Henry asks What do you like best about lacrosse?
I think it's a fun sport, it's a fast game. If it's played well, it's a pretty game, nice to watch. I think it's different in a lot of ways from other sports so it's interesting to watch. It's just fun to play.
diane livingston asks tricia, 149 career goals, 72 career assists, ACC career leader in points, goals and assists, 1999 IWLCA first team all-american, 1999 duke women's lacrosse team MVP, 1999 & 1998 USWLA first team all-american, 1998 duke women's lacrosse team MVP plus numerous other achievements, this is quite an impressive list. Who do you feel has been most instrumental in helping you achieve all this?
My family and my team... I worked a lot with my father and brother early on to become the player I am. From there, the great team to work with. I wouldn't have so many assists if people didn't score after I passed it to them. Plus Kerstin has helped me develop my game.
Allison Danis asks Does Duke give a lot of scholarship money to lacrosse players, and what credentials must one have to be eligible for one?
I'm not sure as to the total allotment of money that Duke gives to the women's lacrosse team. There are requirements, as with any school, you have to have good grades and be a good player to qualify.
Larry Tate asks As a student athlete at Duke, do you strive to maintain close ties with the community. I.E. Neighborhood churches, Police Department, etc.
I've done a lot with the schools being in elementary education. A lot of student athletes do. I do know student athletes who are involved in the churches, police department and things like that.
Bobby Simons asks Hi Tricia, when you were growing up did you play lacrosse with guys as well? Do you get to practice with the men's team at all?
Growing up I played a little bit with my brother, but not necessarily in boy's leagues, and no, we don't practice with the men at all. Thanks everyone for submitting questions today. Go Duke!
