James Madison used a 5-0 run to take control of the match, after Duke sophomore Kate Kaiser received a red card with 18:36 remaining and had to leave the match. Duke had a 12-10 lead before Kaiser received the card after taking a shot on goal. Kaiser scored four goals, all in the first half.
The match went back and forth in the first half before James Madison scored three straight to take an 8-5 lead with 6:47 remaining. Duke came right back and evened up the score before halftime at 8-8 with two goals from Kaiser and one from Claire Finn. Of the eight goals registered by JMU in the first half, seven different players scored.
Duke scored four of the first six goals in the second half as Kelly Dirks netted two, while Kate Soulier and Claire Sullivan each scored one to give the Blue Devils a 12-10 lead with 22:18 remaining.
But, with 18:36 left on the clock Kaiser received the red card and James Madison then went on to score five straight goals. Jess Marion and Kristen Dinisio each tallied two goals, while Amy Brew chipped in another during the JMU run.
The Blue Devils received a free position goal from Ashley Wick with 9:54 remaining to cut the James Madison lead to 15-13, but Marion came back for the Dukes and sealed the victory with her fourth goal of the match a minute later.
Playing in the their final home match at Duke were Tricia Martin, Emily Hickman, Keri Dunn, Shannon Chaney, and Katie Regan.
James Madison improves to 12-4, while Duke falls to 9-5. The Blue Devils will travel to No. 2 ranked Dartmouth on Friday at 3:00 PM.
