DURHAM, N.C. (April 13) -- The No. 4 ranked Duke women's lacrosse team limited Notre Dame to only six shots in cruising to a 15-3 victory on a wet and chilly Thursday evening in Durham, N.C. Duke improves to 8-3, while Notre Dame falls to 4-7.
Duke was led by sophomore Kate Kaiser (Cockeysville, Md.) with three goals in the first half en route to a 10-0 Blue Devil half-time lead. Tricia Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) added two goals in the first stanza, while the Blue Devils defense held the Fighting Irish to only two shots on goal.
The Blue Devils came out and drew first blood on Meghan Walters' (Wyndmoor, Pa.) second goal of the match off a free position shot in less than two minutes into the second half. Notre Dame notched their first goal of the match by Angela Dixon to cut the Duke lead to 11-1 just a minute later.
Duke would not let down as freshman Lauren Gallagher (West Chester, Pa.) added her second goal of the match and sophomore Claire Finn (Newton, Ma.) connected on her seventh goal of the season at the 13:32 mark.
Notre Dame added another goal at the 10:36 mark by Lael O'Shaughnessy from Natalie Loftus, but Duke came right back and increased the lead to 14-2 off a goal from Meg Barnet (Tea Tree Gully, S.Australia), assisted by Keri Dunn.
Blue Devil freshman Erin O'Shaughnessy (Englewood, Co.) connected on her first collegiate goal with 3:24 remaining to put Duke up 15-2 (assist by Kristen McElduff).
In goal for Duke was sophomore Kristen Foster who posted five saves on the night.
Duke outshot Notre Dame 34-6 for the match and forced the Irish to 24 turnovers. The Blue Devils will once again be at home on Sunday at 12:00 PM vs. No. 14 Yale at Koskinen Stadium.
