Duke travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to meet the seventh-ranked Seminoles of
Florida State.
The Duke-Florida State Series
In a series which dates back to 1992, Florida State has won all eight
meetings between the two schools.
The two schools did not play prior to Florida State's joining of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Peter Warrick scored three touchdowns and passed for a fourth as number
one-ranked Florida State defeated Duke, 51-23, in Jacksonville, Fla.
After trailing 44-0 at intermission, the Blue Devils outscored the Seminoles in the second half, 23-7.
Duke's Bobby Campbell threw for 136 yards on the day while Sims Lenhardt booted three field goals. Darius Clark led the Blue Devil defense with two interceptions.

#7 Clemson 52, Duke 22
Woodrow Dantzler accounted for 308 yards of total offense and four
touchdowns as number seven-ranked Clemson defeated Duke by a 52-22 score.
The Tigers jumped out to a 35-0 halftime advantage as Dantzler rushed for two scores and passed for a third.
Chris Douglas led the Blue Devils with 179 all-purpose yards and two rushing touchdowns. D. Bryant earned the first start of his career at quarterback, and completed 16-of-35 passes for 168 yards.

Back-To-Back Vs. Top 10
Only four times in Duke football history have the Blue Devils played
back-to-back games against teams ranked in the Associated Press top 10
national poll.
The last time came during the 1959 season.
The fifth occurrance happens this week as Duke takes on seventh-ranked Florida State after meeting current fifth-ranked and then seventh-ranked Clemson two weeks ago.
Duke holds a record of 4-0 in games following the consecutive contests versus top 10 teams.
In 1938, the Blue Devils closed the season against No. 4 Pittsburgh and No. 7 Southern California and then opened 1939 with a 26-6 victory over Davidson.
In 1944, Duke played three straight games against teams ranked in the top 10. After playing No. 6 Navy and No. 2 Army, the Blue Devils defeated No. 5 Georgia Tech, 19-13, and then downed No. 12 Wake Forest, 34-0.
In 1959, Duke played No. 9 Georgia Tech and No. 10 Clemson in successive weeks before defeating Wake Forest, 27-15.
Not Since 1994
Not since 1994 has Duke defeated a nationally-ranked opponent.
On November 5, 1994, the 23rd-ranked Blue Devils knocked off the 13th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers, 28-25.
The last nationally top-10 ranked opponent which Duke defeated was Clemson in 1989.

Duke head coach Carl Franks is 0-3 against nationally-ranked opponents. A
year ago, then number-one ranked Florida State (51-23) and then number-eight
ranked Georgia Tech (38-31) earned wins over the Blue Devils.
Two weeks ago, then number-seven ranked Clemson upended Duke, 52-22.
Andrew Shows Versatility
After starting 26 consecutive games at center for the Blue Devils, senior
All-ACC candidate Troy Andrew drew a starting assignment at left guard
against Clemson.
Junior Shawn Lynch started at center for the Blue Devils as Andrew switched to guard against the Tigers. Epperson Nears 1,000 Career Rushing Yards
Senior running back Duane Epperson is closing in on 1,000 career rushing yards, needing just 64 to crack the barrier.

A sophomore from Detroit, Mich., D. Bryant saw action in Duke's first four
games before starting in Week Five against Clemson.
In the first start of his career, Bryant went up against the top total defense in the nation in Clemson. He responded by completing 16-of-35 passes for 168 yards while throwing one interception and being sacked eight times.

Safeties
Duke picked up its second safety of the 2000 season against Clemson when
Fred Harris blocked a Tiger punt out of the end zone in the third period.
The Blue Devils also tallied two points when Charles Porter tackled a Northwestern running back in the end zone back in Week Two.

The Blue Devils have picked up three blocked kicks in 2000, surpassing
their total of two during the 1999 season.

Douglas Has Top Day
Redshirt freshman Chris Douglas had his most productive day as a Blue Devil
versus Clemson, accounting for 179 all-purpose yards and a pair of
touchdowns.
Douglas rushed four times for 51 yards including touchdown runs of two and 41 yards. He also caught four passes for 24 yards and returned six kickoffs for 104 yards.
Douglas Back On Pace
After totalling 179 all-purpose yards versus Clemson, Chris Douglas is back
on pace to post the 10th highest single-season total for all-purpose yards
in Duke football history.
Averaging 122.4 all-purpose yards per game, Douglas is on schedule to amass 1,346 yards for the year. Scottie Montgomery established the Blue Devil single-season record with 1,565 all-purpose yards last season, while Mike Grayson holds the school's career standard with 4,381 yards.
Duke's sinlge-season all-purpose yardage freshman record is held by Randy Cuthbert, who picked up 1,547 yards as a rookie in 1989.
Douglas is also on pace to post the second best single-season efforts for b oth kickoff returns and kickoff return yardage.
Holding On To The Ball
Through five games of the 2000 season, Duke has suffered just one lost
fumble. Over the past four seasons, the Blue Devils have lost an average of
12.3 fumbles per year.

On paper, the first half of Duke's 2000 schedule is tougher than the second
half.
The Blue Devils' first six opponents have compiled an overall record of 25-10, while the final five foes stand with a combined ledger of 12-13.

Streaking Receivers
Only WR Nick Hartofilis and TE Mike Hart have caught at least one pass in
all five games this season.
Hart also holds Duke's longest current streak of consecutive games with at least one pass reception at six dating back to the 1999 season.
For the season, Hartofilis leads the Blue Devils in receiving with 14 catches for 165 yards while Hart is second on the club with 11 grabs for 152 yards.

Hamilton Moves Into Tie For 8th On All-Time PBU Chart
Junior cornerback Ronnie Hamilton, who paced the 1999 Blue Devils with 11
pass break-ups, has moved into a tie for eighth place on Duke's career
chart.
The Oxford, N.C., native registered his first PBU of the season in the Vanderbilt game and then added one against Clemson.
Hamilton's 11 PBUs a year ago ranked fifth-best in the ACC and stands as the fifth highest single-season total in school history.

Wade Making An Impact
After missing the first two games of the season out with an injured
shoulder, redshirt freshman Alex Wade is beginning to have an impact on the
Blue Devil offense.
Two weeks ago against Clemson, Wade received his first rushing attempts of the year, gaining 24 yards on six carries. He also caught his second pass of the season, good for nine yards.
DeLamielleure Plays The Consistency Game
Junior inside linebacker Todd DeLamielleure has played in 25 games in his
Duke career, registering at least four tackles in every contest.
DeLamielleure has nine double-digit tackle outings in his career including a career-best 16 stops against Georgia Tech during the 1998 season. In Week Four at Vanderbilt this season, he tallied a team-leading 13 total stops.
Four weeks ago against Virginia, DeLamielleure picked up one tackle for loss, giving him 21 stops behind the line of scrimmage for his career. He now needs just five more to crack the school's top 10 in that category.

Receiver Hartofilis Not Re-Laxing
Senior WR Nick Hartofilis has endured a busy athletic career at Duke. In
addition to earning two football letters, the Huntington, N.Y. native was a
two-time All-America lacrosse player for the Devils. He helped lead Duke to
the 1997 Final Four and the NCAA semifinals in each of the past three
seasons as one of the nation's premier midfielders.
After hauling in four receptions for 45 yards including a 26-yard touchdown catch against Vanderbilt, Hartofilis leads the Blue Devils in receiving in 2000 with 14 total grabs for 165 yards.
Two-Way Performer
Junior offensive guard John Miller has started all five games of the 2000
season on offense while also seeing action on the defensive side of the
ball.
The 6-6, 333-pound Bassett, Va., native has seen spot-duty along the defensive line in short yardage situations, and played two snaps in the Virginia game in Week Three.

Morton Tabbed To Ray Guy Award Watch List
Senior Brian Morton of Duke is among 32 punters included on the Ray
Guy Award watch list as announced by the Greater Augusta Sports Council.
The Ray Guy Award will be awarded to the nations best punter as determined
by a committee made up of sports writers, college football coaches, former
punters and members designated by the Greater Augusta Sports Council. The
National Selection Committee will choose 10 semifinalists who will be
announced by November 8. That same national body will then vote for three
finalists who will be announced Nov. 30.
Morton Becomes Fifth ACC Punter To Reach 10,000 Yards
Senior Brian Morton has become the Atlantic Coast Conference's fifth punter
of all-time to reach 10,000 career punting yards.
For the season, Morton has punted 41 times for a 45.3 yards per kick average.
He now has 10,381 career punting yards to rank fifth on the ACC's all-time list.

In its annual ranking of national universities, U.S. News and World Report
charts Duke University eighth behind Princeton, Harvard, Yale, California
Institute of Technology, MIT, Stanford and Pennsylvania.
Notable rankings include Duke football opponents Northwestern (13), Virginia (T20), Vanderbilt (22), North Carolina (T25), Wake Forest (28) and Georgia Tech (35).
Devil Tales
Duke has produced 55 All-Americas. That total ranks fourth among all ACC
institutions ... Duke is one of the few schools in the country that has
played in four of the major bowls games (Rose, Sugar, Orange and Cotton
Bowls) ... Duke has won 17 league championships as a member of the Southern
Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference ... Did you know that Duke (then
Trinity College) played the first college football game below the
Mason-Dixon line on November 29, 1888? Trinity defeated North Carolina,
16-0, that day ... Duke has 11 players enshrined in the College Football
Hall of Fame.
Anniversaries
The 2000 football season marks the 40th anniversary of Duke's 1960 club
which went 8-3 overall and captured the ACC championship with a 5-1 league
ledger. That team, coached by Bill Murray and captained by Art Browning and
Butch Allie, added a 7-6 victory over Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.
In addition, this year serves as the 70th anniversary of the 1930 Duke squad which posted an overall record of 8-1-2. Coached by James DeHart and captained by Lee Davis, the 1930 team dropped the season-opener to South Carolina before going 8-0-2 in its final 10 games by outscoring its opponents, 147-26.
QBs Trying To Continue Legacy
Duke's group of quarterbacks will try to follow in the footsteps of several
standout signal callers who have donned the Royal Blue and White. Spencer
Romine, Bobby Campbell and D. Bryant are the three quarterbacks looking to
uphold the tradition.
Through the years, Duke has produced several standout QBs, including Leo Hart, Ben Bennett, Steve Slayden, Anthony Dilweg, Dave Brown and Spence Fischer. In fact, Bennett (1), Fischer (3) and Slayden (7) rank among the top seven in ACC history in terms of passing yardage.
Two for 200 In Wallace Wade
After celebrating the 70th anniversary of Wallace Wade Stadium last season,
Duke needs just two home victories to notch its 200th win within the
friendly confines of its home stadium.
The facility, constructed in 1929, was known as Duke Stadium until 1967, when the Board of Trustees approved the renaming of the stadium to honor the legendary Wallace Wade, who coached the Blue Devils to a 110-36-7 record and two Rose Bowls.
Wallace Wade Stadium has been the home of 198 Duke victories, with 58 of those coming by shutout.
The Michigan Connection
Duke has 13 players on its roster who hail from the state of Michigan, more
than any other state except for North Carolina (17). The Detroit area has
produced several Blue Devils in recent years, including D. Bryant, Kyle
Denham, and Tyran Grissom, as well as Renaissance High School teammates B.J.
Hill, Kyle Moore and DJuan ODonald. Newcomer Kenneth Stanford, also from
Renaissance, joined the team this fall.
All in the Family
Junior defensive co-captain, LB Todd DeLamielleure, doesn't have to look
far for fatherly advice. His father, Joe, is a coach on the Duke staff
(tight ends). The younger DeLamielleure is the Blue Devils' leading
returning tackler (178 career stops) and a starter in 20 of his 22 college
games entering 2000. The elder DeLamielleure was an All-America lineman at
Michigan State and an All-Pro for the Buffalo Bills.
Oh, Brother
Speaking of family ties, Duke freshman WR Jeremy Battier has made a name
for himself on the Durham campus with a solid preseason camp. But,
inevitably, Battier draws comparisons to his older brother, Duke basketball
All-America Shane Battier. The two played basketball together at Country Day
High School in Birmingham, Mich., for one season.
Silver Anniversary For Duke Broadcaster
Bob Harris, the voice of the Blue Devils, is in his 25th year as a
broadcaster for the school. Harris is a two-time North Carolina
Broadcaster-of-the-Year. Harris handles play-by-play duties for Duke
football and men's basketball games and hosts the popular Duke Football Show
with Carl Franks television show again this season.
The Replacements
The popularity of the new movie, The Replacements starring Keanu Reeves,
might bring back memories for two Duke assistant coaches. Both Ben Bennett
(quarterbacks) and Joe DeForest (outside linebackers/special teams) were
replacement players during the 1987 NFL strike. Bennett played for the
Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, while DeForest competed for the New
Orleans Saints.
Duke Excels In The Classroom
The Duke football program has been bestowed with the nations highest
academic honor in six of the last eight academic years -- the AFCA Academic
Achievement Award. In 1999, Duke won the award for a record 10th time with a
perfect 100 percent graduation rate. Duke has always had a high rate of
graduation success but the last 20 years has been an unprecedented era in
all of college football. Since 1988 an amazing 268 of Dukes 281 scholarship
football players have graduated within a five-year period. That group has
also attended two postseason bowl games and won the 1989 ACC championship.
Bennett & Dilweg Remain Closely Involved
A pair of former Blue Devil standout quarterbacks, Ben Bennett and Anthony
Dilweg, continue to remain close to the Duke gridiron program.
Bennett, the 1983 ACC Player-of-the-Year and league career record-holder for passing yards (9,614), is an assistant coach on Carl Franks' team while Dilweg, who holds the conference record with five consecutive games of 300 or more passing yards, serves as a member of the Duke radio network.
Facility Improvements On The Way
Duke has made an 18 million dollar commitment to its football program with
a planned 70,000 square foot building to house coaches' offices, meeting
and recruiting rooms, a new locker room, a weight/training complex, and a
trophy room to showcase Duke's football legacy. A majority of the 18 million
dollar goal has been raised. Duke officials are hoping to break ground on
the project this fall.
