The Blue Devils tied a school-record for team assists with 32. The last time Duke registered 32 assists as a team was last year against Temple.
Every Duke player that saw action scored. Missy West hit four three-pointers and led Duke with a game-high 18 points on 6-10 shooting. Georgia Schweitzer tallied 17 pionts and seven assists, Rochelle Parent finished with a career-high 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting, Sheana Mosch tied a career-high with 14 points and nine assists and Peppi Browne finished with 10 points.
Duke Head Coach Gail Goestenkors was happy to get the victory but was not pleased with Duke's overall performance.
"We got better as the game went along," Goestenkors said. "At the beginning our focus and intensity was not what it needed to be. We tried to do some different things defensively and work on some things. I wasn't pleased with our overall play in the first half, but after halftime I thought we came out focused and intense. I was glad to be able to rest some of our starters and give our subs some more minutes. They've been working very hard in practice and just need to play to get better."
Elon was led by Loretta Lawson's 17 points. She connected on five of 14 three-point attempts. Duke forced Elon into 29 turnovers and 31 percent shooting. The Blue Devils shot a blazing 56 percent from the floor and hit 52 percent of their free throw attempts.
