Michael Romney joined Duke Women’s Basketball as the program’s Director of Recruiting in April, 2026. He will manage on- and off-campus recruiting operations while assisting with practice planning, game preparation, player development, student-athlete mentorship, and other duties within Duke Women’s Basketball.
Romney returns to Durham after one year at Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball where he served as the program’s Video Coordinator and Graduate Assistant. He helped lead the Hokies to a 23-10 record (12-6 ACC) and an NCAA Tournament Appearance. Romney previously served as the Head Student Manager and a practice player for Duke Women’s Basketball as an undergraduate student at Duke from 2021-2025. During his four years as a student manager, Duke made three NCAA tournament appearances including a trip to the 2024 Sweet 16 and 2025 Elite 8. The Blue Devils also won the 2025 ACC Tournament in Romney’s senior season. He earned two degrees from Duke in Public Policy and International Comparative Studies.
Romney began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Lone Peak High School Varsity Boys in 2022. He helped lead the Bighorns to their best three-year stretch in program history and their first ever appearance in the Montana Class C State Tournament in 2023.
