Duke University women’s basketball added Justin Roach as the Director of Sports Performance in June 2021. Roach oversees all aspects of physical wellness for the Blue Devil women’s basketball program.
Roach arrived in Durham after spending the last six years at Rice, where he was the Director of Basketball Performance for women’s basketball. During his time with the Owls, Roach was a part of the best stretch in Rice women’s basketball history. The Owls collected five straight 20-win seasons, including two NCAA Tournament appearances, one Conference USA Championship and a WNIT Championship.
At Rice, Roach oversaw all aspects of each athlete’s individual growth, including recovery, nutrition, and the unique training style to match with the squad’s up-tempo style of play.
Rice collected a 72-16 overall record and 44-4 mark in Conference USA action over the last three seasons. In 2018-19, the Owls won a school single-season record 28 game with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the school’s first Conference USA Tournament title.
Prior to his time at Rice, Roach spent three seasons at the University of Maryland with the basketball performance staff. At Maryland he studied under Director of Basketball Performance Kyle Tarp and Assistant Director of Basketball Performance Katie Fowler, where he aided in the transformation of numerous athletes, including two top-five draft picks. Roach was a part of back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances and a Big Ten Championship.
A native to the state of Maryland, Roach earned his M.S. from McDaniel College, is a Fasical Stretch Therapist, and a certified strength and conditioning coach through the NSCA, and a GIFT ’18 Fellow.
