Ansley Cargill enters her first year as an assistant coach with the Blue Devils, after playing professional tennis for the last three years.
While being an assistant coach for the Blue Devils in 2004-05, Cargill will be attending classes at Duke.
Cargill turned professional in July of 2001, after one season at Duke, and since then has been ranked as high as 90 in singles and 67 in doubles. Over her career, she has won 150 singles matches on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour and advanced to the second round of the Australian Open in 2003. Other career highlights include advancing to the singles quarterfinals in Sarasota in 2003, the doubles finals at the Japan Open in Tokyo and the doubles semifinals in Bali in 2003.
A 2001 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America and National Rookie of the Year at Duke, Cargill collected the third-most singles victories in school history with 45. Other honors include being named the ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, becoming the second Blue Devil to earn both honors in the same season, winning the Riviera All-American singles title and was one of five Duke singles players to be ranked No. 1 during their career.
Cargill is a 2000 graduate of the Westminster School and is a native of Atlanta, Ga. Her sister, Kristin, is a sophomore on the Duke tennis squad.
