Hanna Gardner enters her second season on the Blue Devil staff as an assistant coach.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Gardner joined the Blue Devils in January of 2025, after two seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama.
Gardner made an immediate impact in her first season at Duke helping lead the Blue Devils to a 17-5-1 ledger, an appearance in the NCAA College Cup and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
As a team, Duke scored 55 goals and registered 12 shutouts, while registering six wins over ranked opponents. Four different Blue Devils earned All-ACC accolades -- Kat Rader, Mia Minestrella, Carina Lageyre and Cameron Roller -- along with both Rader and Minestrella receiving All-America accolades. Rader went on to be named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Three different Duke graduates went on to sign professional contracts in the NWSL with Rader signing with Houston, Lageyre with Angel City FC and Devin Lynch with Denver Summit FC.
Prior to arriving in Durham, Gardner helped lead Alabama to 22 victories and one trip to the NCAA Tournament second round.
Before her time with the Crimson Tide, she was a High Performance Coach at the Charleston Battery and the Kansas City Current for back-to-back seasons. Gardner also spent time at North Carolina FC as a Youth Head Coach for the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.
Prior to joining North Carolina FC, Gardner spent three years with Carolina Leadership Academy.
Gardner was a tremendous leader, four-year starter and captain at North Carolina from 2012-16. She scored the winning goal in the 2012 NCAA Championship match and also led UNC to the 2016 NCAA College Cup. A walk-on as a freshman, Gardner started the final 22 matches on defense and helped the Tar Heels to 10 shutouts and the NCAA title.
Starting 74-of-91 career matches, Gardner totaled three goals at North Carolina. She guided UNC to 81 team wins over five seasons and five NCAA Tournament appearances. On the defensive side, Gardner helped her squads combine for 56 shutouts. She was a member of the U.S. U-20 National Team from 2013-15 during her time with the Tar Heels.
