Chris Mengel to his staff as a volunteer assistant coach in Oct. 2021.

Mengel is no stranger to Duke as the Pittsburgh, Pa., native was a member of the program from 2011-15. The 2012 All-ACC selection became the 14th member of Duke's 100-win club in 2015 and graduated tied for seventh in career singles victories with 108. Mengel was also a member of the Blue Devils' combined 200-win club with 108 singles triumphs and 93 doubles wins.

He ended his career ranked tied for sixth in program history with 29 ACC singles wins, tied for ninth with 24 ACC doubles wins and tied for 10th with the 93 doubles victories. Mengel also tied for second in program history for most ACC singles wins in a season (10 in 2010-11).

Mengel was tabbed the 2011 ITA Carolina Regional Rookie of the Year and owned 19 match-clinching victories throughout his tenure. He captured three tournament titles in singles (Duke Fab Four Invite – 2010 and 2011; ITA Carolina Regional - 2011) and three in doubles (ITA Carolina Regional – 2011; Duke Fab Four Invite – Black Bracket, 2012 and White Bracket, 2014).

During his Blue Devil tenure, Mengel helped lead Duke to back-to-back NCAA Championship Quarterfinal appearances (2012 and 2013) as well as two showings in the Round of 16 (2011 and 2015). Mengel also competed in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships as a sophomore and reached as high as No. 17 in the ITA national singles rankings and No. 15 in the doubles rankings in his career.
Mengel graduated from Duke in 2015 with a degree in history. He's currently pursuing his MBA at Duke's prestigious Fuqua School of Business.
