Shane Battier, a native of Birmingham, Mich., was a two-time All-American who helped lead Duke to four ACC regular-season championships, three ACC Tournament titles and the 2001 NCAA championship. As a senior in 2001, Battier earned National Player of the Year honors from nine organizations and was named National Defensive Player of the Year by three outlets. His collegiate accolades also included two first-team Academic All-America selections and the 2001 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award.
Over a 146-game career, Battier averaged 13.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. His No. 31 jersey was retired in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb. 21, 2001.
Following his collegiate career, Battier was selected sixth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2001 NBA Draft and went on to enjoy a 13-year NBA career, highlighted by back-to-back championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.
