Tanner Schultheis joined the Duke football staff in February 2024, and currently serves as the director of football operations.
Prior to his time in Durham, Schultheis served a brief stint as an associate athletic director and football chief of staff at San Jose State University. Before being promoted, he spent three seasons (2021-23) as the director of football operations with the Spartans. In that role, he directed and managed all aspects of the daily administrative operations of the football program. He also oversaw all team logistics and planning, such as flights, hotels, meals, and day-to-day scheduling.
Before transitioning to San Jose State, Schultheis was the director of football operations at Samford University for two seasons (2019-20). While with the Bulldogs, he managed the planning and team logistics/travel for the program, oversaw the yearly department budget, including financial planning, and served as the department’s main campus liaison for all business-related matters.
In 2017 and 2018, Schultheis served as the U.S. National Team football operations manager. During his time with USA Football, he helped develop a strategic plan to build coaching and football operations staffs for designated U.S. National Team programs. Additionally, Schultheis was responsible for the hiring of regional development camp coaches and scouts across 30 events and collaborated with designated camp staff personnel groups to maintain streamline communication.
Prior to that, he spent three years (2014-16) at Robert Morris University as the director of football operations and assistant recruiting coordinator. While in Moon Township, Schultheis was responsible for the day-to-day operations and annual budget of the football department. He helped the program raise over $70,000 during the 2016 Joe Walton Celebrity Spring Classic event.
Schultheis also served a short stint in early 2014 as a recruiting and operations assistant at the University of Akron.
A native of Poland, Ohio, Schultheis graduated from Ohio University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration.
