Stroman Prepped for Fourth MLB Season

DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke baseball standout and current Toronto Blue Jay starting pitcher Marcus Stroman begins his fourth Major League Baseball campaign as the right-hander takes the mound for the Blue Jays tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 p.m.

Stroman enters the 2017 season with much momentum after picking up World Baseball Classic MVP accolades after a dominating performance in Team USA's championship game victory over Puerto Rico. Prior to his Team USA stint, Stroman spent time with the Blue Devils at his alma mater.

Stroman was Duke’s first MLB Draft first round pick after the Blue Jays selected him No. 22 overall in 2012. Stroman ranked fourth on Duke’s all-time strikeouts list with (290), while his 3.27 career ERA was the third-lowest in school history in the aluminum bat era (since 1974) and the seventh-lowest all-time. He had nine career double-digit strikeout games, two career complete games and added seven saves during his time in Durham. As a junior, Stroman led all NCAA pitchers in strikeouts with 136 and finished second in strikeouts per nine innings (12.49) during his final season at Duke.

After making his MLB debut in 2014, Stroman is 24-16 with a 3.91 career ERA over 361.2 innings. Stroman and the Blue Devils have advanced to the American League Championship Series each of the past two seasons.
