KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Duke standout, Grant Hill, was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame Sunday evening in Kansas City, Mo., joining seven other inductees as a part of the 2014 class. Established in 2006, the annual induction ceremony occurs the night before the CBE (College Basketball Experience) Hall of Fame Classic, held at the nearby Sprint Center.
In addition to Hill, former players Shaquille O’Neal (LSU) and Darrell Griffith (Louisville), former coaches Gary Williams (Maryland) and Dale Brown (LSU), current coach Glenn Wilkes Sr. (Stetson), Five-Star Basketball Camp founder Howard Garfinkel and the late Prairie View A&M star Zelmo Beaty were all inducted Sunday evening, as well.
During his time at Duke, Hill helped guide the Blue Devils to two national titles while scoring 1,924 career points to rank 16th on Duke’s all-time list. Hill earned myriad honors over his college career, including the Wooden Award, Naismith Award and RCA/USBWA Award, given to the National Player of the Year.
Hill’s collegiate success carried over into the professional game, with the ACC Player of the Year drafted third overall in the 1994 draft by the Detroit Pistons. Hill would go on to become a six-time NBA All-Star during his professional career.
