Upcoming Event: Women's Tennis versus ITA All-American Championship on September 20, 2025

CARMEL, IND.-- After winning two matches each on Thursday, Duke University Women’s Golfers Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee will face each other in the quarterfinals on Friday for the chance to advance to the semifinals of the 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the 6,595-yard, Par 72 Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
The Blue Devil duo will go up against each other for the first time in their career in match play.
“Jennie and I play together three times a week,” Blumenherst said. “You just have to play the course. I have a lot of friends in this championship and it’s another aspect of match play you have to face.”
Blumenherst, who is a junior at Duke from Scottsdale, Ariz., cruised to a 5 and 4 victory over Jenny Suh in the second round and then dominated Marci Turner 6 and 5 in the third round. Lee, a junior from Henderson, Nev., knocked off Margaret Shirley 3 and 1 and then beat Sara-Maude Juneau 6 and 5.
In the first match of the day, Blumenherst got revenge on Suh after she knocked the Duke star out of the semifinals of the North & South Women’s Amateur last month. Blumenherst was the stroke-play equivalent of five-under-par through 14 holes and never trailed in dispatching Suh. A two-time NCAA Player of the Year, Blumenherst held a 4-up lead through eight holes with birdies on holes two, five, seven and a bogey by Suh on the 8th. Suh birdied 10 to cut the lead to 3 up but Blumenherst birdied 13 and 14 for the win.
In the third round match against Turner, Blumenherst cruised as she posted a 6up score through nine holes and then closed out the match after 13 holes. Blumenherst had never advanced past the second round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur in the past.
Lee went up against Shirley in the second round match that saw Shirley taking a 2-up lead through six holes. Lee came back to win four of the next six holes to take a 2-up edge. She was the equivalent of even par through 17 holes.
In the third round match against Juneau, Lee caught fire and posted a five-under-par ledger through 13 holes to dominate her opponent.
Duke sophomore Rebecca Kim got off to a slow start in the second round against Mina Harigae and never could recover as she fell 4 and 3. Kim, who is from Tigard, Ore., had never advanced to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and came up against a hot Harigae, who won the 2007 Women’s Amateur Public Links this summer.
Friday will feature the quarterfinal round of match play and fans can follow the action on The Golf Channel from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
The three remaining Blue Devil golfers are looking to follow in the footsteps of former Duke four-time All-America Virada Nirapathpongporn, who won the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne, Pa.
