Duke juniors Jason Williams, Mike Dunleavy and Carlos Boozer have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches/Pontiac Division I All-America Teams, as announced by the NABC. Williams and Dunleavy garnered first team All-America honors while Boozer was named to the third team.
Williams, the NABC Player of the Year in 2001, earned first team All-America honors for the second straight year. A unanimous first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, Williams leads the ACC in scoring (21.9 ppg) and three-point field goals made (3.1 pg) and is among team and ACC leaders in steals (2.1 pg), assists (5.3 pg), assist/turnover ratio (1.4) and field goal percentage (.464). He is one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Award, one of 30 midseason finalists for the Wooden Award and one of three finalists for ESPN the Magazine's Player of the Year and Point Guard of the Year.
Dunleavy, a first team All-ACC and All-ACC Defensive Team selection, garners All-America honors for the first time. A 6-9 forward, Dunleavy is one of two players in the ACC ranked in the top 10 in seven statistical categories. He is third on the team in scoring (17.7 ppg) and second in rebounds (7.3 pg) and is tied for the team lead in steals (70) and blocked shots (18). Dunleavy is an Academic All-District selection, one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Award, one of 30 midseason finalists for the Wooden Award and one of three finalists for ESPN the Magazine's Swing Forward of the Year.
Duke's career field goal percentage leader with a .625 career mark, Boozer was named to the NABC/Pontiac All-America third team. The 6-9 center is a first team All-ACC selection and is the only player among the top four in the ACC in four statistical categories. He leads the ACC in field goal percentage (.653), is third in rebounding (8.7 rpg) and offensive rebounds (3.1 pg) and fourth in scoring (18.4 ppg). He is one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Award, one of 30 midseason finalists for the Wooden Award and one of three finalists for ESPN the Magazine's Center of the Year.
This is the fourth consecutive year that at least one Duke player has garnered first team All-America honors and the second year in a row that two Blue Devils have been named to the All-America first team. Last year, Williams and Shane Battier were consensus first team All-America selections.
Drew Gooden (Kansas), Juan Dixon (Maryland) and Steve Logan (Cincinnati) join Williams and Dunleavy on the NABC's first team. Dan Dickau (Gonzaga), Jared Jeffries (Indiana), Casey Jacobson (Stanford), Tayshaun Prince (Kentucky) and Udonis Haslem (Florida) comprise the second team. Boozer, Jason Gardner (Arizona), Sam Clancy (Southern California), Kirk Hinrich (Kansas) and David West (Xavier) are third team honorees.
On Tuesday, it was also announced that Williams, Dunleavy and Boozer became the first trio from the same team to be named first team All-ACC in the history of the league.
