DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke women's tennis standout Ansley Cargill will be inducted into the 2026 Sessions Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame, which was announced recently by the Georgia Tennis Foundation (GTF).
Cargill will be inducted Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Marietta Country Club along with Bobby Reynolds.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Cargill spent only one season with the Blue Devils in 2000-01, but turned in one of the most successful campaigns in Duke women's tennis history. She captured the Riviera Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship singles title and collected a 45-4 overall record. Cargill was named ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, ITA National Rookie of the Year, ITA All-America and was ranked No. 1 nationally at one point during the season.
Cargill's 45 victories still rank No. 3 on Duke's single-season wins chart. She is one of five Blue Devils to be named both ACC Player and Rookie of the Year. Cargill helped lead Duke to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship and the ACC Championship. The Blue Devils totaled a 27-2 overall and 8-0 ACC mark.
As a junior player, Cargill reached the top 10 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior World rankings. She competed in the U.S. Open, French Open and Wimbledon. She was the No. 1 ranked recruit heading to Durham in 2000.
After turning professional in 2001, Cargill enjoyed a five-year Women's Tennis Association (WTA) career, which included career high rankings of #90 in singles and #67 in doubles, along with four ITF singles and doubles titles. She reached the second round of the 2003 Australian Open, falling to fellow American Venus Williams. Cargill was a bronze medalist at the 2003 Pan American Games.
