CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke freshman forward
Cameron Boozer was named the ACC Player and Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, March 9. With his sweep of the weekly awards for the fifth time this season, Boozer joins former Blue Devil
Cooper Flagg as the only two players in the history of the league to accomplish the feat five times in a single season.
Additionally, with his 10th Rookie of the Week honor of the season, Boozer is one of just five total ACC players to reach double-digit Rookie of the Week recognitions. Boozer is joined by two former Duke players, Flagg (12 times, 2025) and
Jabari Parker (10 times, 2014), alongside Kenny Anderson (10 times, Georgia Tech, 1990) and Tyler Hansborough (10 times, North Carolina, 2006).
The Miami, Florida, native also matched Flagg for the second-most Player of the Week recognitions by a Duke player in a single season, trailing only J.J. Redick, who garnered six Player of the Week awards during the 2005-06 campaign.
Boozer
achieved a historic performance last week, while averaging 26.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists, and shooting 66.7% from the field (18 of 27), 50.0% from 3-point range (3 of 6) and 76.5% from the free-throw line (13 of 17), during two Blue Devils' victories.
In the rivalry triumph over No. 17 North Carolina, 76-61, he amassed 26 points, 15 rebounds and five dimes, becoming the only Division I player in the last 30 seasons to post 25+ points, 15+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a regulation win over an AP top-25 opponent.
During a 93-64 win at NC State, Boozer opened the week by recording 26 points, nine boards and six assists.Â
Over the last 12 seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 109 of a possible 221 weeks (49.3%). Twenty-eight different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time. The Blue Devils have now had an ACC Player of the Week 157 total times, second most in the league, trailing only North Carolina (159).
Boozer shared this week's ACC Player and Rookie of the Week recognitions with Ebuka Okorie of Stanford.
Up next, No. 1 Duke (29-2, 17-1 ACC) opens postseason action in the ACC Tournament at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The No. 1-seeded Blue Devils earned a double-bye to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of No. 8-seed Florida State and No. 9-seed California on Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
