INDIANAPOLIS – The Duke women's basketball team has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Team of the Week following its two ACC wins, including a convincing victory over No. 18 Notre Dame.
The Blue Devils, winners of six straight, are surging into the thick of conference play. The Blue Devils are one of four ACC teams to remain unbeaten in league play, sporting a 4-0 record along with Louisville, NC State and Virginia.
Duke's offense has come alive in conference play, ranking second in the league in scoring offense (80.8) and offensive rebounds (14.5), third in 3FG percentage (.371) and fifth in field goal percentage (.467).
Individually,
Toby Fournier ranks third in the league in scoring at 19.8 points per game after four games.
Ashlon Jackson and
Taina Mair are tied for seventh in assists with Duke and Wake Forest the lone schools to have two players averaging at least 4.0 assists per game in league play.
Defensively, Duke sits atop the ACC in scoring defense (55.5 ppg) rebounding margin (12.8) and opponent field goal percentage (.354). The Blue Devils are second in overall rebounding (44.5) and third in defensive rebounds (32.0).
The Blue Devils' 82-68 win over the Fighting Irish had a handful of notable moments as Fournier and Mair finished with at least 20 points and five assists apiece. That marked the first time Duke had two players with 20 points and five assists in a game since Jan. 11, 2001 when Alana Beard and Georgia Schweitzer had 29/5 and 24/7, respectively, against Georgia Tech.
Fournier's five assists were a career high for the sophomore forward and the first time since 2019 a Duke forward had at least five assists in a game. The last time was Leonna Odom and Jade Williams both dishing five dimes against Boston College, Dec. 8, 2019.
Duke continues ACC play on the West Coast, taking on California, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. (ET), on ACC Network Extra and Stanford, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. (ET) on ESPN.
