DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's soccer is welcoming seven newcomers to the pitch in 2025 as
Kieran Hall takes over the reigns as the head coach of the Blue Devils. The seven-member class is ranked No. 3 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.

The Blue Devils will spotlight each of the seven newcomers ahead of preseason practice starting in late July.

Our fourth rookie is
Avery Oder, a 5-6 forward out of Calabasas, Calif. Oder graduated high school early and enrolled at Duke in the spring of 2025. She is the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2025 class and was tabbed the U-17 ECNL National Player of the Year and Ventura County Girls' Soccer Player of the Year as a junior. Oder registered 54 goals, 32 assists and 140 points over three years of high school soccer.Â

GoDuke.com:Â What made you choose Duke?
Avery Oder:Â I chose Duke because of the incredible coaching staff, team culture, style of play and overall environment while also being able to pursue my degree at one of the best universities in the world. I knew that I could develop into the best person and player possible under the coaches.

GD: Tell us about your soccer game and what you hope to bring to Duke?
AO:Â I am an Attack minded, quick, technical, fast, unselfish, high energy, forward/attacking mid. I hope to bring the best version of myself to the team to help us win.

GD: Favorite Duke player you grew up liking to watch?
AO:Â Tess Boade

GD: Most excited for at Duke (soccer and not soccer)?
AO:Â I am most excited to represent the university and play on such a high level team in the best conference in the country. For non-soccer I am so excited to spend time with my teammates off the field and enjoy all the activities on campus.

GD: What is a fun fact/skill/talent people may not know about you?
AO:Â A fun fact is that I love pigs. I have always wanted a pet pig, but I have yet to get one. I hope to own one in my future.

GD: Who are your biggest inspirations on and off the pitch?
AO:Â On the pitch, my biggest inspiration is Carli Lloyd because of her grit, winning mentality and never stop attitude.

Off the pitch my biggest inspiration are my parents who both played college sports. They have shown me how to be a hard worker, be a good person and chase after my goals.

GD: What is your proudest moment on the soccer field so far?
AO:Â My proudest moment on the soccer field so far is winning the ECNL National Championship with my Beach FC team and being named National Player of the Year.

GD: At what age did you start playing soccer?
AO:Â I started playing soccer at four years old.

GD: Did you play other sports growing up?
AO: Other than soccer I grew up playing softball and basketball Â

GD: I know it is early, but do you have any idea yet what you think you might want to major in?
AO:Â I want to major in Economics.
