IRVING, Texas – Duke football incoming freshman defensive end Sampson Onuoha earned a place on the 2025 NFF Team of Distinction, announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame.
Â
Onuoha, a Northeast Region honoree, was included within the 82-member class, which was picked from a pool of 3,500 scholar-athletes from the nationwide NFF Chapter Network. As part of its mission to promote the scholar-athlete ideal, the initiative allows the NFF to honor the top high school scholar-athletes from across the country for their all-around excellence—while also highlighting the vital work of the NFF Chapter Network at the grassroots level.
A three-year letterman at Belmont Hill [Mass.], Onuoha is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com, ESPN.com and Rivals.com. He is charted as the No. 2 prospect in Massachusetts by 247Sports.com, the No. 3 prospect according to Rivals.com and ESPN.com's No. 4 prospect. Onuoha grew up in Great Britain before moving to the United States and primarily played basketball until the move. He became a two-time All-Independent School League selection in football. During his senior campaign, he booked 37 tackles with 10.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. He helped Belmont Hill to bowl games as a junior and senior, with his team defeating Worcester Academy to cap his senior year.Â
Â
"Each year, the NFF Team of Distinction represents the very best of what high school football has to offer — young men who lead with character, perform with excellence, and give back to their communities," NFF Chairman Archie Manning said. "These 82 honorees exemplify the scholar-athlete ideal that is at the heart of our mission, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements. We are equally grateful to our NFF Chapter Network leaders, whose tireless efforts ensure that the values of football continue to thrive at the grassroots level."
Â
The members of the team all played their final high school football season during the 2024-25 school year. Criteria to make the team include (but are not limited to) academic achievement, athletic accolades and community involvement. Each chapter is limited to one honoree, distinguishing them as the top scholar-athlete from all the high schools covered by the chapter.
