ORLANDO, Fla. – The Duke men's tennis All-America doubles duo ofÂ
Cooper Williams andÂ
Theo Winegar secured a straight-set victory (7-6(5), 7-5) in their 2025 American Collegiate Wild Card Playoff semifinal match, defeating SMU's Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Â
With the win, the Blue Devil tandem advances to the finals of the tournament, scheduled for Thursday at a time to be determined, where they will face either Columbia's Michael Zheng and Nicolas Kotzen or Stanford's Nicholas Godsick and Hudson Rivera.
Â
The opening set was back-and-forth, with the teams' trading games and tying the score five times before heading into a tiebreak. In the decider, Williams and Winegar broke away from a 5-5 tie by claiming the final two points and taking the set. In the second frame, the Blue Devils rattled off four straight games to jump ahead 5-4. SMU evened the set at 5-5, but Williams and Winegar closed strong, winning the next two games to clinch the match and punch their ticket to the finals.
Â
A win on Thursday would earn Williams and Winegar one of six guaranteed U.S. Open main draw wild card entries.
