NAIRN, Scotland – Duke women's golf graduate student
Andie Smith had her run at The Women's Amateur Championship come to an end Friday morning as she dropped 3&2 decision to fifth-seeded Caterina Don at the Nairn Golf Club in Scotland.
Smith, who hails from Hobe Sound, Fla., opened with a solid start as she won the third hole to go 1UP in the match. She then went 2UP on No. 7 with a par. Don came back and won back-to-back holes on No. 8 and No. 9 to send the match back to all square. With a par on No. 11, Don took her first lead of the match and then won the next two holes to go ahead, 3UP. Don closed the match with a par on No. 16.
It marked Smith's first appearance in the prestigious amateur championship.
