NAIRN, Scotland – Duke women's golf recent graduate
Andie Smith moved on to match play at The Women's Amateur Championship on Wednesday, which is being contested at the Nairn Golf Club in Nairn.
Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, Fla., posted rounds of 74 and 72 to place tied for 26th with a 146 in stroke-play qualifying. In the first round, Smith posted four birdies, including back-to-back on holes No. 17 and No. 18 to finish with a 74. On Wednesday in round two, she collected an eagle on No. 2, but dropped shots on No. 3, No. 5 and No. 9 to make the turn at 1-over, 37. Over the final nine holes, Smith was 1-under-par, with a birdie on No. 17 and eight pars.
The top 64 golfers through 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying advanced to match play. Smith, who has one year of eligibility remaining at Duke, will face Celine Chen of Australia in the first round Thursday.
Fellow Duke teammates
Carla De Troia and
Anna Cañado Espinal missed the cut. De Troia totaled scores of 80 and 72, while Cañado Espinal signed for back-to-back scores of 77.
Blue Devil standouts
Celine Boutier (2015) and
Leona Maguire (2017) each claimed The Women's Amateur Championship.
