SPRINGFIELD, Va. – For the second time this week, a member of the Duke women's golf program has qualified for the 2025 U.S. Women's Open as Blue Devil sophomore
Katie Li earned the bid Wednesday at the Springfield Golf and Country Club in Springfield.
Li, who hails from Basking Ridge, N.J., carded rounds of 69 and 74 for a 1-over, 143, to finish in a tie for first along with Nicha Kanpai and Angelina Tolentino. All three golfers headed to a playoff where Li stuck her approach to nine feet on the second hole and rolled in the birdie to earn the second qualifying spot.
"I got to have fun on the course with my dad on the bag today and the odds turned out to be in my favor," said Li. "I am so happy to have an opportunity to play in my second U.S. Women's Open. Being at Lancaster last year opened me up to a whole new world of golf. It was an experience of a lifetime and I am so excited to be able to do it again."
It will mark the second straight appearance in the U.S. Women's Open for Li and joins teammate
Andie Smith at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisc., May 28 through June 1.
Duke incoming freshman
Avery McCrery posted rounds of 75 and 72 to finish tied for eighth with a 147.
