DURHAM, N.C. – After helping lead fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis to a pair of road victories on the West Coast against 16th-ranked California and 25th-ranked Stanford, Blue Devil freshman
Liv Hovde was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.
Hovde, who is from Daniel Island, S.C., received the honor for the first time in her career, following a week where she went 2-0 in doubles and 1-1 in singles play to help lead No. 4 Duke to a pair of ACC road wins at No. 16 California and No. 25 Stanford and remain unbeaten in conference play.
She started the weekend alongside
Emma Jackson with a 6-4 win in doubles action over Greta Greco Lucchina and Lan Mi of Cal on court three to clinch the doubles point for the Blue Devils on Friday. The South Carolina native then picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 25 Mushika of the Golden Bears on court one in singles play to help Duke hold off Cal for the 4-3 win. It marked Hovde's second career top-25 victory over the last couple of weeks.
Versus Stanford on Saturday, Hovde teamed up with Jackson once more to defeat Chidimma Okpara and Morgan Shaffer of the Cardinal 6-2 and clinch the doubles point, which proved to be vital in the Blue Devils' 4-3 road win.
In singles play, No. 84 Hovde suffered a 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 loss to No. 8 Glozman of Stanford on court two, marking her only loss of the weekend.
Last week, Hovde was part of the ACC Doubles Team of the Week along with Jackson.
Duke closes the regular season this weekend by hosting No. 64 Florida State on Saturday, April 12 and No. 55 Miami on Sunday, April 13. Both contests will be at 11 a.m., at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
