INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Duke women's basketball freshman
Toby Fournier has been tapped as one of 50 players to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year Midseason Watch List, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
The
Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner is to be announced at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Tampa, from April 4-6. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Fournier has enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign, pacing the Blue Devils in scoring (12.7 ppg) while ranking second on the glass with 5.7 rebounds per game. She has reached double figures 12 times, netted five 20-point outings and led the team in scoring seven times.
The Toronto, Canada product was named the USBWA Tamika Catching National Freshman of the Week earlier this season (Nov. 25) and has totaled four ACC Freshman of the Week honors thus far (Nov. 25, Dec. 9, Jan. 20 and Jan. 27), giving her the most FOTW selections by a Blue Devil in over a decade.
The
Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the women's national player of the year by the USBWA. Named for the legendary UCLA guard, the award was first presented in the 1987-88 season and formally named in Meyers Drysdale's honor in the 2011-12 season. Ann Meyers Drysdale played at UCLA from 1974-78, which pre-dates the USBWA All-America selections. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
No. 10 Duke returns to the court Monday, Feb. 3, closing out a three-game road swing at in-state rival and No. 17 NC State. The Blue Devils and Wolfpack are set to tip off at 7 p.m., live on ESPN2.
