CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke freshman guard/forward
Cooper Flagg took home a record-tying 10th ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced on Monday, Feb. 17.
Flagg has now been named ACC Rookie of the Week 10 times this season, tying the conference record. He joins Kenny Anderson (Georgia Tech, 1990), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina, 2006) and
Jabari Parker (Duke, 2014) as ACC freshmen to accomplish the feat.
Spanning Duke's 2-0 week, Flagg averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest, while shooting 55.6% (15-of-27) from the field, 50.0% (5-of-10) from 3-point range and 100% (11-of-11) from the free-throw line.
During the Blue Devils' 78-57 victory over California, the freshman amassed 27 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Flagg followed up that performance with 19 points, five boards, six assists and two steals in Duke's 106-70 victory against Stanford.
Over the last 11 seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 96 of a possible 201 weeks (47.8%). Twenty-six different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time.
No. 3 Duke (22-3, 14-1 ACC) returns to action on Monday, Feb. 17, playing at Virginia (13-12, 6-8 ACC). Tip off at John Paul Jones Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
