CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke freshman forward
Cameron Boozer was named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, Nov. 24. During three Duke victories, Boozer averaged 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting 55.0% (22-of-40) from the field.
Boozer recorded a pair of double-doubles, including 18 points, 11 boards and five assists in a 78-66 win over No. 24 Kansas in the Champions Classic; and 26 points, 12 caroms, four assists and two steals in a 93-56 win over Howard, making 10-of-12 (83.3%) shots from the floor, including 2-of-3 triples.
He also collected 14 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots in 21 minutes against Niagara.
Over the last 12Â seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 101 of a possible 207 weeks (48.8%). Twenty-eight different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time.
A native of Miami, Fla., Boozer was also named the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week by CollegeInsider.com.
No. 4 Duke (7-0) next takes the court on Thursday, Nov. 27, when it matches up with No. 22 Arkansas (5-1) in the CBS Sports Thanksgiving Classic. The Blue Devils and Razorbacks are scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m., at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., broadcast live on CBS.
