DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's basketball and head coach
Kara Lawson announced the signing of Taylor Sofilkanich to its 2026 freshman class Sunday during the November signing period. Sofilkanich comes to Durham as ESPN's 43rd-ranked player in the 2026 class.
"I chose Duke because it's the perfect place to challenge myself and play at the highest level of women's basketball," said Sofilkanich. "I know it's where I'll grow the most – on and off the court. Go Blue Devils!"
Hailing from Holmdel, New Jersey, Sofilkanich is a 6-5 center who brings great fundamentals and patience to the position. She already can finish over either shoulder, excels at holding post seals down low and is an active defensive presence.
In her sophomore year alone at St. John Vianney High School, Sofilkanich scored over 300 points and grabbed 232 rebounds, while dishing 40 assists and blocking 59 shots.
Lawson on Sofilkanich
"Taylor has a bubbly personality that's affectious and it carries through every time you talk to her, every time you're around her. She has an energy about her, her excitement level to make big plays but to also see her teammates make big plays. I think her ability in the paint to be able to finish and score – her size, her length and her intelligence in how she plays the game at both ends is a perfect fit for what we need and what we're looking for."
