Blue Devil Women’s Tennis Moves to No. 7 Nationally

DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off a 4-0 start to the regular season, the Duke women's tennis team has moved to No. 7 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings, which was announced Wednesday by the organization.
The Blue Devils collected a 4-3 victory over 10th-ranked Pepperdine, while also notching wins against James Madison, Virginia Tech and N.C. Central over the last two weeks. The win over the Waves marked the fifth-straight over a top 10 opponent inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth has now led the Blue Devils into the top 10 of the ITA rankings in 21 out of the last 23 years.
Georgia received all 13 first-place votes to garner the No. 1 slot, while Texas A&M, Stanford, Oklahoma State, Virginia, UCLA, Duke, Michigan, North Carolina and NC State round out the top 10 teams. A total of seven ACC teams are listed in the latest poll – Stanford (3), Virginia (5), Duke (7), North Carolina (9), NC State (10), California (14) and Florida State (24).
Duke will feature a big test this coming weekend in the ITA Kickoff, which features No. 5 Virginia, No. 20 South Carolina and New Mexico in Charlottesville, Va. The Blue Devils face the Gamecocks on Friday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m., while the Lobos and Cavaliers will meet at 1 p.m. The winning and losing teams will then meet on Saturday.
To start the 2025 regular season, the Blue Devils feature a 15-3 dual match ledger with Irina Balus, Shavit Kimchi and Ava Krug leading the way with 3-0 marks. In the latest ITA rankings, Duke has four singles student-athletes ranked -- Emma Jackson (25), Eleana Yu (30), Balus (36) and Kimchi (49) – along with two ranked doubles teams – Ellie Coleman and Balus (10) along with Jackson and Yu (71).
