DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 12 Duke men's tennis team is set to open its dual match slate with a Sunday doubleheader at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Blue Devils host No. 21 Harvard and North Carolina Central at noon and 5 p.m., respectively. Parking is available in the Blue Zone with live stats and video are available for all three matches.
Three Duke singles players and three doubles teams were ranked by the ITA in its final fall listing. JuniorÂ
Sam Landau stands No. 37 in singles with junior
 Pedro Rodenas right behind at No. 38. Sophomore
Cooper Williams rounds out the trio at No. 47. The doubles duo of Williams and graduate
Theo Winegar is the highest of the Blue Devil bunch at No. 12. Landau and graduate
Andreja Petrovic stand at No. 33 while Rodenas and juniorÂ
Gerard Planelles Ripoll are No. 49.Â
SEASON OPENER SUCCESS
SinceÂ
Ramsey Smith took over in 2008-09, the Blue Devils hold a 14-2 record in season openers with the lone losses coming to Elon, 4-3, in 2014 and No. 20 South Carolina, 4-1, in 2021.
HISTORY WITH HARVARD
For the third consecutive season, Duke and Harvard will face off. The Crimson, who lead the all-time series 15-2, has captured the last two meetings by 4-3 scores, on January 22, 2023, and February 23, 2024. In last year's contest, the Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 before three consecutive singles victories by
Alexander Visser,
Pedro Rodenas and
Garrett Johns flipped it to a 3-0 Duke lead. Harvard took the last two decisions to win the match. Â
HISTORY WITH NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
Duke currently leads the all-time series with the Eagles 19-0 with all matches being played on the Blue Devils' campus. These two programs met January 21, 2024, with Duke recording a 7-0 sweep.Â
A WHOLE NEW ORDER
The Blue Devils' lineup will look much different in 2025 with two of its top three from 2024 having exhausted eligibility.
Garrett Johns was on the top court for 19 matches last spring while
Andrew Zhang was on No. 3 for 18 decisions. The top doubles court was occupied by
Garrett Johns and
Pedro Rodenas, who earned All-America honors, for all but three dual match decisions last spring.Â

To help replenish the Duke roster, the Blue Devils welcomed eight newcomers. In come graduate transfers

NCAA SINGLES AND DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
This fall the NCAA held its singles and doubles championships as part of a two-year trial period. Duke was represented in singles by
Cooper Williams and
Pedro Rodenas and in doubles by Williams and
Theo Winegar. Rodenas dropped his first match while Williams advanced to the Round of 32 in singles and to the Round of 16 with Winegar in doubles. Williams and Winegar's opening doubles match was one of the record books as they clawed back after dropping the first set to win 1-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (8).Â
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils welcome Cornell, Old Dominion and Vanderbilt for the ITA Kickoff Weekend inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center from January 25-26. Duke will face Old Dominion at 12 noon on Saturday, January 25 before facing either Cornell or Vanderbilt on Sunday. The start time for Sunday's match has yet to be determined.
