DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's golf duo of
Celine Boutier and
Leona Maguire are primed to kick off the 2024 Solheim Cup, which runs Sept. 13-15 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.
Both Boutier and Maguire will represent Europe and it marks the ninth straight Solheim Cup that a Duke golfer has competed in the prestigious event.
Other Duke golfers who have competed in the Solheim Cup include Boutier (2019, 2021, 2023), Maguire (2021, 2003) and
Brittany Lang (2017, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009).
A Blue Devil golfer has led their Solheim Cup team to wins in five straight events – Maguire & Boutier (2023 & 2021), Boutier (2019), Lang (2017 & 2015).
Boutier, a 2016 Duke graduate, will be making her fourth consecutive appearance in the Solheim Cup and owns a 5-4-1 ledger over her career. A 2018 Blue Devil graduate, Maguire has carded an impressive 7-2-1 record and she will be competing in her third straight Solheim Cup.
Europe has won the previous three Solheim Cups with the last United States victory coming in 2017 with Lang part of the winning team in De Moines Golf and Club.
The Solheim Cup combines the tradition and prestige of the game of golf with passion for one's country and continent. This biennial international match-play competition features the best U.S. players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European players from the Ladies European Tour (LET).
Held every two years, the event has grown into the most prestigious international women's professional golf team event. The U.S. Team leads Team Europe, 10-7-1, all-time in Solheim Cup competition.
Fans will be able to watch the Solheim Cup on Thursday for the Opening Ceremonies from 4-6 p.m., on the Golf Channel. On Friday, the Golf Channel will air the action from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday will feature coverage from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Golf Channel and 3-6 p.m. on NBC and Peacock. Sunday's final round will be aired on Golf Channel from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on NBC/Peacock and 3-4 p.m., on Golf Channel for the Closing Ceremony.
