DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off helping the Duke women's soccer team to a pair of victories last week, including two clean sheets, sophomore center back
Cameron Roller was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday.Â
Â
As a team, the Blue Devils (4-1-0) jumped back into the United Soccer Coaches poll at No. 8 as Duke is riding a four-match winning streak. It marks the ninth straight year the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top 10 nationally at some point during the season. Head coach
Robbie Church has now guided Duke to top 10 rankings in 16 of his 24 seasons with the Blue Devils.Â
Â
Roller, who hails from Sherman, Texas, opened the week by helping lead the Blue Devils to one of the biggest home victories in school history as Duke defeated second-ranked North Carolina, 1-0, for the first win at home against the Tar Heels. Roller played the entire 90 minutes, assisted on the game-winning tally and helped lead Duke to its third-straight shutout. Roller and the Duke defense limited North Carolina to season lows of shots (6) and corner kicks (0).Â
Â
On Sunday versus East Tennessee State, Roller notched her second goal of the season off a header from
Devin Lynch, while helping the Blue Devils collect another shutout.Â
Â
"Cam is the leader of our back line with Katie [Groff] and Nicky [Chico]," said Duke head coach
Robbie Church. "Cam has been great. She had a goal against ETSU, an assist versus Carolina and two clean sheets this past week. She had a fantastic performance. Cam has just grown and showed me she's an All-American candidate, not only All-ACC, but an All-American candidate. We're really proud of her performance, all the defenders and Leah [Freeman] in goal as well."
Â
Overall, on the week, Roller notched one goal and one assist for three points in a team-high 154 minutes. She helped the Duke defense to 180 minutes of shutout soccer to extend the shutout streak to 395:48.  In two matches, Roller and the Duke defense allowed only seven shots.Â
Â
The ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor for Roller is the first of her collegiate career. Roller was also tabbed to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week for her efforts.  Â
Â
Duke closes its homestand Thursday, Sept. 12 as the Blue Devils host Missouri at 7 p.m., inside Koskinen Stadium live on ACCNX.Â
