DURHAM, N.C. – Boosted by six first-half goals, the Duke women's soccer team opened exhibition action with a 9-0 victory over Furman on Monday evening inside Koskinen Stadium. A total of nine different scorers and five different Blue Devils assisted on the evening.
How It Happened
- Duke opened the scoring quickly as graduate student Hannah Bebar finished a 6-yard attempt off an assist from Julia Saunicheva at the 3:51 mark.
- The Blue Devils added three goals over a span of less than four minutes to go ahead 4-0.
- At 17:05, fifth-year Katie Groff picked off a clear from the Paladin defense and finished from 21 yards out. Her shot hit the far-right post and went into the goal.
- Junior Kat Rader got into the scoring mix at the 19:26 mark as she stole the ball from the Furman keeper and finished the easy goal.
- Radar then found graduate student Maggie Graham, who blasted in a 14-yard attempt from the right side at the 20:40 ledger.
- Duke went ahead 5-0 after Graham fired a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and junior Carina Lageyre corralled the ball and finished in the 30th minute.
- Following an inclement weather stoppage, the Blue Devils tacked on one more goal to go ahead 6-0. Fifth-year Ella Hase took a rebound from a Graham shot and hit the top right corner of the net at the 42:35 mark.
- After a quick break for halftime, Duke made it 7-0 as sophomore Phoebe Goldthwaite found her classmate Mia Minestrella inside the right side of the box. Minestrella rocketed in her right-footed goal inside the far-left post in the 61st minute.
- Junior Devin Lynch got into the scoring column at the 66:32 mark. Hase crossed a perfect ball across the front of the goal to Lynch, who sent a shot into the left corner.
- Rookie Mary Long added a goal in the 71st minute to give the Blue Devils a 9-0 advantage, off an assist from Saunicheva.

- For the match, the Blue Devils held a 39-5 lead in shots.
