Maluach Helps South Sudan Men's Basketball to Opening Victory
South Sudan men's basketball secured its country's first Olympic victory on Sunday with a 90-79 victory over Puerto Rico. The team is playing in its first Olympics after earning a bid to the games by being Africa's top finisher at the FIBA World Cup in 2023.

Khaman Maluach played six minutes for his country, scoring two points on 1-of-2 shooting while also grabbing two rebounds.

United States Opens with Win Against Serbia
The American men's basketball team recovered from an early first-quarter deficit to cruise past Serbia, 110-84, in the country's first contest in Group C.

Payne, Nigeria Fall, 1-0, to Spain
For the second straight match, Toni Payne and the Nigeria squad's defense held strong, but dropped a 1-0 decision to Spain on Sunday in France. Spain was able to get on the scoreboard in the 85th minute as Alexia Putellas finished a direct free kick.
Payne, a 2017 graduate, made the start for the second match in a row and played the entire 90 minutes. Nigeria was limited to only four shots, including two on goal for the contest.Â
Nigeria will close group play on Wednesday at 11 a.m., against Japan. Fans can stream the match live on

Quinn, Canada Rally Past France, 2-1
Quinn and her Canada squad needed a come-from-behind effort for the second consecutive match on Sunday and came through in extra time with a 2-1 victory.
France was able to get on the board in the 42nd minute as Kenza Dali found Marie-Antoinette Katoto for the tally. Canada evened the score in the 58th minute as Jessie Fleming collected a rebound off a shot and finished inside the right post.Â
In extra time in the second half, Vanessa Gilles was able to push through with the deciding goal to help Canada improve to 2-0 in the Olympics. Quinn, a 2018 Duke graduate, earned the start again and played 67 minutes.

Puerto Rico Narrowly Defeated by Serbia
Puerto Rico opened its Olympic slate Sunday morning with the first game of Group A play, dropping a tight, 58-55 decision to Serbia. Puerto Rico stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Serbia 19-3 in the frame, but was unable to force overtime.
