DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball senior catcher
Alex Stone signed a free agent deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, following the 2024 MLB Draft.
The two-time ACC Champion closed the 2024 campaign with a .312 batting average in 247 plate appearances. He scored 45 runs, collected 77 hits, 32 for extra bases, and drove in 59 RBI on the year. Stone posted a .547 slugging percentage in 60 games played, crushing 13 home runs and 19 doubles on the year.
During the 2024 season, Stone was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team, a Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Semifinalist, tabbed to the All-ACC Second Team, and was named to the Preseason Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Watch List. The Duke backstop finished his career ranked third in home runs (40), 23rd in doubles (42), 13th in RBI (138), and tied for seventh in slugging percentage (.552).
In 2023, Stone recorded a 30-game hitting streak, the third longest in program history and longest under head coach
Chris Pollard. He also added the longest-reached base streak under coach Pollard, reaching safely in 36 straight contests. The Andover, New Jersey, native recorded five hits in the final two games of the Conway Regional, including three home runs in two games against host Coastal Carolina to lift Duke to its third Super Regional appearance in program history.
