McCain Picked by 76ers in First Round of NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Duke men's basketball added to its NBA Draft history on Wednesday night at Barclays Center as freshman Jared McCain was selected in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 16th overall pick.

The Blue Devils have boasted at least one first-round selection in 13 of the last 14 drafts. With McCain's selection, Duke extended its streak of at least one freshman drafted to 11 consecutive years.
"This is the best moment of my life... other than committing to Duke," McCain said after his selection. "I love life. I'm so grateful to be here. Shout out to Philly. I'm excited to learn the city and get some wins."

Wednesday night was also notable for second-year head coach Jon Scheyer, who now has three first-round draft picks as the Blue Devils' head mentor. Duke has produced 23 first-round picks since Scheyer joined the coaching staff in 2013-14.

Among the most prolific college basketball programs in generating NBA Draft picks, Duke now boasts 110 overall selections, as one of just four college programs all-time to surpass 100 picks.
