De Troia Advances to Quarterfinals at France Women's Championship
After opening the France Women's Championship in a tied for third in stroke play qualifying at the Golf Club de Lyon, Duke incoming freshman
Carla De Troia advanced to the quarterfinals of match play in her home country of France.Â
Â
De Troia totaled a 2-under-par ledger in the second round of stroke play qualifying and was paired with Salome Lumbaca in the round of 32 of match play. Lumbaca led 1UP through 13 holes, but De Troia closed strong with birdies on No. 14, No. 16 and No. 18 to take the match, 1UP. In the round of 16, De Troia faced Harmonie Yin and found herself leading 2UP through 13 holes, but Yin birdied No. 15 and No. 16.  The match went to extra holes where De Troia eventually won in 26 holes.Â

In the quarterfinal matchup against Camille Min-Gaultier, the contest was all square through five holes, but De Troia dropped holes No. 6 and No. 11 to fall behind by two holes. Min-Gaultier would birdie holes No. 13-15 to eventually win 4&3.

Smith Falls in Match Play at Florida Women's Amateur

Andie Smith competed in the 95
th Women's Amateur Championship this week and advanced to the round of 16 of match play at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla.Â

In stroke play qualifying, Smith posted rounds of 72 and 75 for a 147, which was tied for fifth. Smith, who is from Hobe Sound, Fla., then totaled a win over Marley Pedrique in 21 holes in the round of 32. She then faced Nancy Cox in the round of 16. After taking a 1UP lead with a birdie on hole No. 1, Smith dropped three straight holes from No. 4-6 as Cox birdied all three holes. Smith couldn't get the match closer than two holes the rest of the way, before falling 3&2.Â
