Quotes
- "I thought East Tennessee State played a good match in doubles and singles against us -- they played fearless and hats off to them.I thought we made some adjustments with our doubles, especially at the No. 3 doubles and No. 2 doubles played really well and got off to a really good start.Anytime you play these matches, the doubles point is huge. Everyone is capable of winning quite a few singles matches and so to go into the singles with a 1-0 lead was big for us today." -- Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
- "You could tell that we hadn't played [in a while]. And that's always the worry. We hadn't played in almost two weeks and you could sense it - especially closing out games/closing out sets where you really need to be crisp.I felt like we didn't do a very good job with that. But the good thing is that we're in a position where we can raise the level of play by a couple more levels. So, hopefully we can do that tomorrow."-- Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
- "Karolina [Berankova] did a good job, after struggling a little in the first set.Bri [Brianna Shvets] same thing struggled in the first set, but closed that out. Iuliia [Bryzgalova] has been pretty good the last couple of weeks for us.We've relied on her a lot with those singles points. But across the board, I think we just need to be better tomorrow. We need to be a little bit more crisp, a little bit more focused and taking advantage of positions and situations that we've put ourselves in.It's going to be a battle no matter who we play, and, I think we're ready for that." -- Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
- "I want to give a shout out to our opponents today. They were really gritty, really hungry and I think they really showed up and gave it their all. I think that was apparent if you just look at our scores.I started off a little slow, but I just tried to keep my head down, stay positive, and try to neutralize my strengths and really just focus on trying to play my game and that was really helpful." -- Duke graduate student Brianna Shvets
- "It was amazing. I mean, anytime you can step on the court, it's an honor and personally I had a little bit of nerves, but it's nice to kind of get that first match under your belts and I'm excited for tomorrow." -- Duke graduate student Brianna Shvets on getting the win in the first round
