Â
Johns kicks off the championships on Monday with a 10 a.m. (9 a.m. CT) match against Tyler Zink of Oklahoma State, while Rodenas faces Karlis Ozolins of Illinois at 1:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. CT). Â
In addition, the pair, who are the No. 1 overall seed, will team up in the doubles competition and battle Casey Hoole and Toby Samuel of South Carolina in their opening-round match on Tuesday. Time for the contest has yet to be determined.
Â
All matches are best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
Johns, Duke's No. 1 singles player this spring, owns a 16-6 overall record this season with a 9-5 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. The two-time first-team All-ACC selection was ranked in the top 25 for the entire dual match season and is currently listed at No. 21 heading into the NCAA individual tournament.
Rodenas, who is a two-time All-ACC selection, heads into the NCAA individual tournament ranked as the No. 43 singles player and has been Duke's primary No. 2 player this spring. He leads the team with 26 overall singles wins, including a team-best 18 dual victories during his second season. The Madrid, Spain, native holds an 11-8 ledger against nationally-ranked opponents this year and has recorded victories in 10 of his last 12 outings.
In doubles, Johns and Rodenas are ranked No. 1 nationally and earned the No. 1 overall seed at the postseason tournament. The pair is 20-4 overall and has played on Duke's top two courts, holding a winning record on both, including a 17-4 mark on court one. The two-time first team All-ACC pairing finished ACC play with a 9-1 ledger and went 14-3 against nationally-ranked opponents, including victories over the No. 1, No. 7, and No. 9 ranked duos.
