PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Duke track and field concluded its final weekend of regular season action on a high note as the Blue Devils produced several top-five program marks and four event wins during the final day of competition at the Penn Relays and Charlotte Invitational.
Across the two meets, the Blue Devils revised program records in four women's events – 100m hurdles, 4x800m relay, discus, and pole vault – while posting victories in the men's high jump, men's long jump, women's 100m hurdles and women's triple jump.
TOP PERFORMANCES – PENN RELAYS
- A historic performance by Duke in the women's 4x800m relay culminated in a second-place finish and a spot in program lore. The Blue Devil foursome of graduate student Julia Fenerty, seniors Charlotte Tomkinson and Samantha Wallenstrom and sophomore Lauren Tolbert sprinted their way to an 8:28.37 finish to slot themselves No. 2 all-time and become the first women's quartet since 2017 to record a time on the respective top-five list.
- Graduate student MaKayla Mason got the Saturday slate underway for the Blue Devils and turned in a solid day of competition on the way to locking down a pair of top-five placements -- the first coming in the women's discus event.
- Mason delivered her furthest throw on her final attempt as she stepped into the cage and launched the discus 52.67m (172-9 feet) for the runner-up finish. The toss registered as a season best and improved her No. 2 all-time program mark. Mason also took part in the women's shot put where she placed third overall behind a throw of 15.74m (51-7.75 feet).
- Classmate Skyla Wilson saw herself jump two spots up the Duke outdoor 100m hurdles list following her fastest race of the season. Wilson sprinted to a finish of 13.21 seconds – good for third among the field and third all-time at Duke.
- Brianna Smith took part in the women's high jump and notched her second top-five placement of the outdoor campaign. Smith cleared each of the first four heights on her initial attempt before bowing out with a final clearance of 1.79m (5-10.50 feet) to finish second.
TOP PERFORMANCES – CHARLOTTE INVITE
- Gemma Tutton carved out her spot on the Duke charts behind a strong effort in the women's pole vault. The freshman placed third after registering a personal-best clearance of 4.35m (14-1.25 feet), slotting herself No. 3 all-time in program history.
- The Blue Devils closed out the two-day meet with four event wins, with graduate students Beau Allen, Ezra Mellinger, Birgen Nelson and Tia Rozario comprising the list of victors.
