DURHAM – Behind 21 points and seven rebounds from
Kyle Filipowski, No. 10 Duke blitzed Virginia, 73-48, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday night. The Blue Devils (23-6, 14-4 ACC) also received double-digit showings from

Jeremy Roach were co-leaders for assists, with five apiece, and Filipowski swiped three steals on the defensive end.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A three-point play by Mark Mitchell opened Duke's scoring on its first trip down the floor. Two straight layups from Kyle Filipowski made it a 7-2 lead, just over two minutes into the game. Tyrese Proctor sank the game's first 3-pointer shortly after the first media timeout, giving the Blue Devils their first double-digit lead, 14-4, at the 15:09 mark.
- Filipowski scored five straight, including a fast-break 3-pointer, giving the sophomore nine early points and forcing a Virginia timeout. A slam dunk from Sean Stewart pushed the margin to 12, 21-9, at the under-12 timeout.
- An extended 18-5 run moved the Blue Devils further ahead, 25-9, and was capped off by an offensive rebound and layup from Stewart. Duke's offense continued to find success in the paint, with a Ryan Young layup and a Mitchell dunk to expand the lead, 33-11.
- Duke's defense held Virginia without a field goal for over nine minutes of play and led 38-13, following a windmill dunk by Filipowski and a Proctor 3-pointer, at the final media timeout of the first half. Jared McCain got into the points column with a runner in the lane shortly before halftime, and the Blue Devils took a 40-18 lead into the halftime break.
- Virginia scored nine quick points out of the break to cut the lead under 20, before a contested layup from Mitchell and a fast-break dunk by Proctor pushed the score to 50-27. Filipowski got two offensive boards and layups to establish a 27-point advantage, 58-31, with 12:31 on the clock. Virginia trimmed the score to 58-36 and called timeout, but the Blue Devils responded with a TJ Power 3-pointer and a Proctor fadeaway.
- Duke continued to keep Virginia at arm's length, leading 68-43 at the final media timeout of the contest. An emphatic put-back dunk from Stewart punctuated the 73-48 victory.

QUOTES
- "Well, obviously, that was a great win for us. To score 40 points on Virginia, that's a heck of a thing to do in the first half. I just thought our guys came out really ready to play; the defense was terrific. And then, typically against Virginia, you have to call a lot. You have to call your actions because you have to be organized and together. But I thought we did such a good job of flowing into offense, and driving downhill, making the right reads. And then good things happen from that, and we just kept our foot on the gas. But a lot of respect for them, their program, Tony [Bennett] as a coach. And to beat those guys is a great thing. And we know it's such a quick turnaround [to the game at NC State on Monday]. We're going to enjoy this for a few more minutes, and then we're going to move on very quickly." - head coach Jon Scheyer
- "We didn't really have anything different than the rest of the games we've played. We just wanted to play our basketball, what we've been working on all year, sharing the ball, moving the ball, keeping things going. [Virginia] is a really different team on what they show us, and we did have to adapt to that a little bit. But, ultimately, it was just us playing the way we've been playing." - sophomore center Kyle Filipowski
