DURHAM, N.C. – Duke earned the No. 4 seed in the South Region of the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Sunday evening and is set to face Vermont in the first round. The Blue Devils and Catamounts open their tournament on Friday, March 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The full 68-team bracket for the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament was revealed on Sunday, with the Blue Devils earning their 46th all-time bid to the NCAA Tournament – fifth most in NCAA history – as one of the 36 at-large bids handed out by the selection committee.
Head coach
Jon Scheyer leads Duke into the tournament for the second straight season and has steered the Blue Devils to a top-five seed in each of his first two seasons at the helm of the program. Duke has been ranked inside the top-25 for the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign and enters the tournament with a 24-8 record after finishing second in the ACC standings with a 15-5 league mark.
Duke is 119-40 (.748) all-time in the NCAA Tournament, marking the best winning percentage in tournament history by a team with a minimum of 20 games played. Duke's 119 wins are also third-most in the event's history.Â
Friday marks the fourth all-time meeting between Duke and Vermont, but the first matchup in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils hold a 3-0 edge in the series, most recently winning, 91-90, on Nov. 24, 2013. The Catamounts are coming off their third consecutive America East Tournament title and are making their 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they hold a 2-9 all-time record.
Duke is 3-0Â all-time against teams from the America East Conference. Vermont (28-6) enters the tournament on a 10-game winning streak, fourth-longest in the country, and boasts the 23rd-ranked field-goal percentage defense in the country, holding its opponents to just 40.6 percent from the field.
The Blue Devils have now been selected to the South Region nine times – last in 2015 – and hold a 25-6 record when playing out of the South Region. Duke is 4-2 all-time as a No. 4 seed and is 2-0 all-time versus a No. 13 seed.
Duke's game on Friday in Brooklyn marks the program's first NCAA Tournament game in the city. The Blue Devils are 9-2 all-time at the Barclays Center, highlighted by their ACC Tournament title in 2017.
The winner of Friday's first-round game advances to play the winner of No. 5-seed Wisconsin versus No. 12-seed James Madison on Sunday. The South Regional semifinal and final will be played at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on March 29-31.
